Kurt Jackson’s ‘Biodiversity’ Opens in Southampton This Friday

By 23rd May 2022 Exhibition

Kurt Jackson’s touring exhibition Biodiversity opens at Southampton City Art Gallery this Friday 27th May.

Kurt Jackson’s Biodiversity is an exhibition of paintings, found objects and sculpture made in various locations across the UK including the New Forest that highlight the specific biodiversity of each area.

Jacksons’ work reflects the amazingly biodiverse world we live in, and how this is changing as a result of human activity and climate change. This new body of work focuses on the vital interdependence of lifeforms and the landscapes they inhabit.

Bringing together the celebrated art of Kurt Jackson with reflections from Oxford University researchers, this exhibition explores biodiversity across British landscapes and considers the future of our country’s habitats.

“In this new body of work I’ve been focusing on the vital interdependence of the lifeforms and landscapes which make up our environment: that incredible variety of animals and plants in all their complexity, beauty and fragility that inhabit this country. I’m trying to raise awareness of the intricate, beautiful, but vulnerable ecosystems that exist all around us. By being aware of the life we share this planet with, we can appreciate and hopefully conserve it.” – Kurt Jackson.
