Kurt Jackson had two new exhibitions open this week. The Cornish Seal can be viewed at the Jackson Foundation, while his touring show RNLI Cornwall is on at the The National Maritime Museum Cornwall.
The Cornish Seal at the Jackson Foundation
A normal, almost everyday experience for anyone who spends time on the Cornish coast, seals seem to pop up whenever we look out to sea; are they looking for us?
“I can easily spend a day in the cove painting alone and the only real company I have all day is a curious seal just offshore.
“I decided to spend the last few years dedicating as much time as possible watching, studying and trying to understand them – their form and movement, their haunts and habits and in turn create a body of work inspired by them.”

RNLI Cornwall at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall
After wowing over 16,000 visitors last year during its run at the Jackson Foundation, Kurt’s RNLI Cornwall exhibition has now opened at The National Maritime Museum Cornwall.
Jackson’s RNLI Cornwall documents the important role of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in Cornwall and celebrates their vital work within our coastal communities.
This year marks the RNLI’s 200th anniversary, and this exhibition shares the museum’s large main hall with examples of RNLI lifesaving equipment and fascinating maritime vessels.

As part of my three day stay in Penzance last week, specifically for the Harold Harvey exhibition, I visited Falmouth and didn’t know this exhibition was on: my loss! All being well I’ll be back to Penzance in the autumn for the ‘The Flora’ exhibition at Penlee House. It’s a long way from Durham!!!
